The Edge of the Wold

Looking back again

A doe roe deer took a long look back at us from a clearing in the dense scrub of hazel and ash saplings.  We see roe deer most mornings, often just a fleeting view as they bound across in front of us, and usually I don't have the camera ready.  A little further on a buck was barking somewhere in deep cover, but I couldn't see it.

As we came home, I saw my first swallow of the year flying over the house. That is 6 weeks later than I would normally expect to see one flying over water at Leighton Moss, but I haven't been there since the lockdown started; and have rarely been more than a mile from home in all that time.

Back at home, we have sorted the supply issue of flour for baking bread, a delivery arrived direct from Shipton Mill. I now have 41 kilos in total of their organic flour, that should keep us going for a couple of weeks!
