A NZ...
…………..Native
This is a Tui, native to New Zealand and also known as the Parson bird because of the white neck feathers.
We have two day-time residents in our garden. A larger bossy bird which is presumably the male and a smaller shyer bird.
They are wonderful, entertaining visitors - quite noisy too. I had to add the photo on the left as that is such a common sight - the ‘girlfriend’ was sitting in the tree above this bird while he was taking a break from supping the provided sugar syrup from the orange feeder.
They can make the loveliest melodic sounds, but they are also capable of producing an unbecoming honking sound!
The feathers appear black in flight and at a glance, but in reality this beautiful green is seen shimmering in the light.
Thank you for the comments, stars and hearts for yesterday’s cluster of dainty ‘spider’ flowers.
