Big Hair

I really never planned to publish two pictures of myself in a week, but when I ran across this in a box I was delving through I had to laugh! To think that I was worrying about my hair getting out of control in a mere nine weeks! I think this picture was taken for an invitation to a big 25th anniversary party John and I threw for ourselves.

I spent far too long delving further into the depths of the box which John dragged out of the attic...not a bad way to lose oneself in the past instead of dwelling on the big question on everyone's mind...what's going to happen in the future? Given the fact that I have literally left no stone unturned, no flower unexamined, no room unexplored, I suspect I will be subjecting everyone to more old papers, letters and photographs in the weeks to come.

Restrictions have been eased somewhat and guidelines laid out for when restaurants and parks will reopen. Nothing will change much until the county goes fourteen days without a death due to Covid19. Since we just had another death just a few days ago, it will be at least two weeks, but the paper was full of pictures of the owner of one of our favorites inside his empty dining room moving tables around and measuring the distance between them.

I heard a really interesting interview today of Dr. David Fagenbaum who had a rare catastrophic disease called Carpenters' disease which almost killed him several times. Since there was no known cure he decided to look for one himself. He has written a book called Chasing My Own Cure. in which he recounts crowd sourcing his own treatment with a global network of doctors, scientists and patients. It is a fascinating story with lots of insights into what, in my opinion, is wrong with our medical system.  His research on Carpenters' Disease, reveals that  a storm of cytokine cells, designed to boost the immune system, goes berserk and attacks all the organs in the body.  This is  just what is happening in severe cases of Covid19.

He and his team found a treatment for Carpenter's Disease in some people, including himself. Trials have begun to see if it can be used on Covid19.
