Meet Oor Team of the Year 2012
Last Friday, 25th January was a very special night for The Kiltwalk as it was our inaugural Kiltwalk Burns Supper & Awards night, which took place at the Grand Central Hotel.
It was a night to gain blisters from dancing and celebrating with friends to the live music of The Soul Kings rather than walking. It was also an evening where we presented cheques worth £70,000 to our core charity partners: Aberour Child Care Trust, CHAS, CLIC Sargent and TACC.
We told some incredible stories about our Kiltwalkers and fundraisers, some heart-warming, some heart breaking, but all inspiring us to greater things in 2013.
In addition to handing over these substantial cheques it was also an evening where we thanked some of our Kiltwalkers for their massive efforts in 2012. We presented awards for Outstanding Team, Outstanding Fundraise, Outstanding Contribution, Unsung hero and Outstanding Physical.
We'll post pictures of our winners over the days to come however today we would like to present our Outstanding Team of the year, Aila's Amblers, shown above and who are from left to right are Kirsty MacDonald, Sine Coull, Fraser Coull and Rebecca Dawson.
Aila's Amblers strive to cure childhood Acute Myeloid Leukemia and raise funds in memory of their precious daughter Aila, who they lost to AML aged 16 months.
Aila was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia a pediatric cancer where there is only a 60% five year survival rate, at only 10 months old.
Sadly, due to a complex genetic mutation and following 5 months of intense, grueling chemotherapy treatment Aila did not achieve remission and there was no more treatment available to her. Aila passed away on the 2nd of September 2012, holding her mummy and daddy's hands aged 16 months.
Aila's gentle but strong nature throughout her treatment has inspired her parents, Sine and Fraser Coull, to set up The Aila Coull Foundation in her memory.
In 2013 The Aila Coull Foundation have Kiltwalkers taking part in every single Kiltwalk the length and breadth of the country and we wish them all well and hope they raise as much as possible to help the continued fight against AML.
