it's gym, Jim .....

Every tuesday morning, apart from holidays and the odd pandemic, I attend  a gym for people with cardio-pulmonary conditions.  It's closed at the moment, so I'm having to compensate, by attending my own gym in the spare bedroom.

I have an old exercise bike and an exercise mat, but no weights.  So I've made my own out of couple of plastic milk bottles, an old broom stick and some of builder's sand which is currently lying in a pile outside our front door.

For those interested in this sort of thing, a 2 litre plastic bottle holds about 3kg of sand.  So what you see here is a 6kg barbell.  No good for an aspiring Charles Atlas, but more than adequate for an old man like me.

The only thing I really miss, apart from the cup of tea with my gym pals afterwards, is a drowning machine (that's really interesting - I started to type 'rowing machine' and the predictive text came up with the more sinister alternative.)

Anyway - rowing machine; we don't have room for a proper one,  but I am wondering if I might be able to fashion something out of a skateboard and a couple of bungee cords.  (And other bits, obvs, but I'm just at the concept stage).
