As Clear as Mud!!!
This is the flowers on a shrub in my garden that was here when I moved in, can anyone identify it?
We've just had the PM's broadcast - I'm not impressed as there's no clarity whatsoever, no notice and it leads to loads of questions. He outlined 3 steps for re-opening society and also said it's 'soon time' to start quarantine for people arriving into the country by air. The slogan has changed to Stay Alert, Control the Virus, Save Lives. Bizarrely there's already confusion as Scotland, Wales and NI are sticking with the old slogan and it looks like the changes only apply to England.
Step 1 From tomorrow people have been told to return to work if they can't work from home, avoiding public transport - a bizarre message to give at 7pm on a Sunday evening with no childcare or travel arrangements sorted out or opportunities for employers to contact their employees and as he said workplaces would receive guidance on becoming 'Covid secure'. This excludes schools, shops and the hospitality industry - manufacturing and construction were mentioned as examples but obviously lots of other types of companies could apply. From Wed we can go out for unlimited exercise including playing sports and can drive to it, as long as it's within our own household. Fines for non-compliance to increase - no amount stated.
Step 2 Shops to open and primary pupils to return to school - all from 1st June at the earliest and as long as guidelines on safety are met.
Step 3 Hospitality industry to start to re-open if safe to do so - from July at the earliest.
PM talked about the importance of increasing testing, but it still doesn't sound to me that the government will be complying with the WHO testing guidance for coming out of lockdown - to me our inability to test, track and trace is a gaping hole in these plans.
Day 56 / Day 48 of Full Lockdown (for my record only)
UK deaths up 268 to 31,855, Italy up 165 to 30,560, Spain up 143 to 26,621. US deaths exceed 80,000. No briefing today due to the PM's broadcast which had no opportunity for questions. More detail to be given tomorrow in Parliament.
