Bird cherry
Late-morning walk up to the Common, again by the direct route. MrM was hoping to spot a young red squirrel, but no chance, as there were too many noisy people and dogs around. Suddenly, maybe in anticipation of the government relaxing lockdown, there were far more people on the Common than there have been during the last 7 weeks and, worryingly, some had either abandoned physical distancing, or had no idea how far 2m is.
The blossom is on a bird cherry tree that was blown down in gales a couple of years ago. It's on its side with most of its root system out of the ground, but still clinging to life and, this year, flowering profusely.
The rest of the day spent mostly working in the 'yard. Good to be outside, I got carried away - only when the church clock struck 9 did it occur to me to go indoors! We watched a film this evening - MrM's choice this time, The King, a historical drama based on several of Shakespeare's plays. Beforehand, we raised a glass to peace - Spanish red in French-made glasses - on Europe day.
Lockdown, day 47, Saturday
