Fallen warrior?

I wonder if an epic battle took place causing a warrior to lose this sword. It lies forlorn and broken on the grass by the side of one of the many green lanes which surround our home. perhaps the warrior was fighting to save the princess who's shoe I found, and bliped, not far from here before Christmas.
