Clematis montana flowers, with honeysuckle buds

These Clematis montana flowers appeared quite early this season and have been profuse. I never prune them but I fear that is now imminent as they are getting very woody and the surface flowers are building up the plant into leggy bushes. I shall have to consult oracles about how best to both look after as well as control them. Some of their leading edges are pushing up into adjacent trees and over into the neighbour's garden. I don't think they mind, but I fear the best of the flowers may move elsewhere without some judicious attention.

There is also a white flowering clematis in the mix which is coming off second best, so may be I can encourage that plant to blend in  and grow more evenly. We shall see.
