Union Jack's and red white and blue bunting were flying as I cycled this morning as lots of houses were celebrating Victory in Europe Day. I'm sure they celebrated it a lot more seventy five years ago than we can today from our prisons and I bet they didn't think we'd lose our freedom to such a microscopic enemy. Our Union Jack was flying at home too but it has been flying since 1st January 2020. I saw Double Dog today who looked at her watch as I rode by indicating that I was late but as our paths crossed in exactly the same place as usual we were both on time.
Rachel has given us another half dozen eggs so today was eggy Friday. Our friends Anthony and Anne emailed giving me a recipe for a runny yoke boiled egg suggesting I put the egg straight into boiling water for three and a half minutes. I tried there this to the letter and it worked reasonably well except putting the egg straight into boiling water caused the shell to crack. After three and a half minutes the white was a little runny for my liking to but the contained heat within the egg meant that by the time I'd pealed it and put it on my toast with the smoke salmon the white had continued cooking and was alot firmer and the runny yellow yoke was just right. As I've got five eggs left I will try boiling another egg the same way tomorrow but for four minutes which should firm up the white and hopefully not the yoke.
My first small job of the day was to renew the brake blocks on my Summer bike. Like the mower parts are always wearing out. I keep a good stock of consumable parts and have plenty of brake blocks which I buy when we're in France as they are a lot cheaper at around two euros fifty a set.
Well when I watched the Gun man on YouTube last night he gave me some good ideas. He recommended holding the spray gun closer to the car and using higher air pressure. Bingo the finish was much much better. The Gun Man also said in another video that it was a good idea to use a sponge backed sanding pad to flat back the paint. I'd bought some of these pads years ago at an auto jumble and bingo again they worked exceptionally well. Although the ones I'd got were a little harsh they are fine for rubbing down for the topcoat but not before spraying the clear coat lacquer so I have order some 1,000 and some 1,500 grit ones off ebay which should arrive the middle of next week.
Today I rubbed the whole car down with the sponge backed sanding pad and topcoated the offside of the bonnet and the nearside front wing. I also sprayed the two front headlight cowls.
As I'm in a spraying mood I am going to spray our modular bed which we've had since we were married but over the years it has become yellowed with age. So I have bought some satin white paint and some more cellulose thinners from Brighton Auto paints the guys who did such a good job of matching the Bentley paint.
I the evening we watched the BBC's programmes about V. E. Day. I can't remember the last time we sat and watched a TV programme.
