Trading Heritage
The Veitch family have long connections with the Peebles area. In 1884 Robert Veitch established a successful outfitters on the High Street in Peebles. It was one of around 10 other drapers shops in Peebles.
Sadly the shop closed a few years ago and since then the ornate turreted building it occupied has sat empty - a sad reminder of a long established part of Peebles High Street which has now gone.
This picture is of the distinctive name¬plate 'logo' which remains on the building. It was designed by a friend of Robert Veitch whilst they were serving together during the First World War. Its beautiful lettering and stylish design has appeared in many of the town's photographs since the 1920s.
