VE Day Street/Garden Party
Well the Gods certainly smiled on us weather-wise today it was so warm in fact it got a bit too hot in the end. we started at 12 noon
This is Paula and my party on the drive. Others were sat either on their front lawn or on the pavement outside their houses. One of the neighbours, Colin, had rigged up a loud speaker and played a lot of old 40's/war time songs Goodbye Dolly, We'll met again, when I'm cleaning windows. etc etc, the list goes on. Then later changed to more 60's music, everyone was very good keeping their distance from each other but having good old chats and sing songs. My Granddaughter sent me a text which said, "just passed your street and it looked as if you were all having a great time" (they had been shopping)
We drifted in about 3pm as it was so hot even under the sun shade, It was such a pity we all had to keep our distance because being a cul de sac we could have had trestle tables out filled with food, friends and relatives there too, and dancing, just like we did when Charles and Diana got married, that was a great day.
There were a few street parties going on all over the village.
So a good time was had by all even in these trying times. But we didn't forget the reason we were celebrating and it was sad to think of the wars and lives lost, and how lucky my family were that all their menfolk came home safe.
Hope if any of you had a street party you had as good a time as us.
Now we have to get ready for the cold snap they are telling us we are getting from Sunday on, so out with the thermals again
