Wild Flowers

.......... there were many houses decorated for VE Day celebrations in the village when we went out for a walk but I decided that these wild flowers were prettier, so they won the place for my blip :-)
We didn't join the 'street party in your own garden ' celebrations as it's not really our thing ...... although having said that I met my hubby at the last VE Day street party 25 years ago. We were both newly separated ( he's my second husband) and I had only just moved in to the house opposite where I now live, with my two lively teenagers. Neither of us wanted to go to the party but a well meaning neighbour insisted that everyone went. Tables and chairs were set up in the middle of the cul de sac and we were both instructed to sit within talking distance ( I think someone was match making), however, neither of us wanted new partners and initially we were both extremely quiet and hardly spoke at all. The street party was followed by a disco in the village hall which we were bullied into attending and then promptly left alone together, sitting opposite each other at a table. Eventually ( after a drink or two) he asked if I wanted to dance, I wasn't too sure but I decided to give it a go and as soon as we were within two feet of each other in a slow dance the chemistry was obvious ........ we stayed on the dance floor until the disco finished. We walked home, I let my children into the house and told them to go to bed and I went to his house just opposite ....... we just talked and talked until the sun came up.
We were engaged a week later, although we didn't actually get married for another 10 years and I've never regretted a single moment. So today has special memories for me as I finally found my soulmate :-))
