A passing shower

This is an amazing spring.  Day after day of warm and sunny weather.  The gardeners amongst us, and probably the farmers too, would welcome the odd shower, but they are few and far between.  This one was over the Pentland Firth.

A long walk with Lottie along field tracks and back via the road.  So long as I don't have to open any gates, I reckon I'm safe to keep walking.  I saw lots of wild violets, the banks of the tracks were covered with them.  A purple haze on the grass as you walk towards them.

A few years ago the council dug out the drainage ditches at the side of the road.  Rather than men with spades, this time it was a huge digger and the result were ditches nearly thigh deep!  All the vegetation was gone, they were down to stone and rocks and mud.  Now, a couple of years on, they have greened up nicely and finally the king cups/marsh marigolds are back and flowering!  Lovely to see them, shining from the bottom of the ditch!  There are yellow flag irises too, just starting to form buds, so they aren't far behind.
