Elder Statesmen

Another day of going to work, this time by bus because the wind and rain became increasingly belligerent. So, there I was, nearing my bus stop, when the sun came out from behind the clouds, perched itself on top of Edinburgh Castle and shone down onto St. Cuthberts. Like a caged bird, I needed to break free to capture the moment. 'Come on, come on' I mumbled. Just then the traffic lights turned red! 'Sun, please keep shining' I whispered under my breath. Red light, green light, first gear, second gear, first gear, brake on, doors open, 'Thank you bus driver (it's an Edinburgh thing)', pedestrian crossing, pavement, church entrance gates. Ahh, there they were, my two elegant lamp posts at the foot of the church gates, elegantly facing each other, like two elder statesmen.

The church banner still made them look a little shoddy, but this vibrant sun streaming through their lanterns more than made up for it.

I have been told I have quite an imagination. But you have to admit, they do look smart and do possess an air of quiet refinement. These wonderful elder statesmen, tipping their hats to each other, delighting in the joys of this glorious churchyard, on this glorious day.
