A relaxing glass of Champagne .....
Whoop! Off to France. Obsessive checking of weather apps all morning as blizzards were forecast and Ryanair cancel at the drop of a hat - allegedly!
Snow due in at 7, our flight due out at 6.45 ...................we made it. Well, we made it up into the air but is was a bit of a bumpy ride. Normally a seasoned traveller even I was verging on panic as our plane wobbled violently on descent to Dinard, St Malo.
The taxi was waiting. There are supplements for eveything in a French Taxi. Bags over 5 kilos, more than 3 people, the weather, you name it. I have never seen a meter reading rise so fast in my life.
Half way to Jan's house near Doll de Bretagne it started to snow - not on the forecast at all. There was no grit at all on the roads and the snowflakes were huge, the size of mice. Ii tried taking a photo through the windscreen with my phone just as the taxi started to skid off the road. The driver got us bavk on again and we were worrying we might not make it to the village. Trouble is the way back would have been worse for the driver than struggling on. One more hill to go , it took three attempts and more wild skidding on the way down before a tight turn off to the village. We were so worried about the driver we offered him the spare room but he said his wife would have walked to get him if he stayed in a house with four women!!
Jan had left a bottle of champagne in the fridge at the end of her previous trip and there was also Pate, Rillettes , toast and crisps. The fire was all ready to be lit and in no time we were relaxing in front of the lovely warm flames munching , drinking and laughing.
Much of the trip had not been on Jan's tightly organised itinerary but it worked out ok in the end.
By the next morning the snow had completely disappeared and it was brilliant sunshine.
