Water of Leith and Hydro Electric Generator
My legs are a bit tired today, and also the conditions are a tad icy, I take the bus and tram to work.
At lunchtime, having a day ticket, I take the tram to Balgreen, then walk down to Saughton Park. On the news recently, the new refurbishment of the Saughton Rose Garden mentioned the opening of a hydro electric generator on the Water of Leith. The generator is driven using a 10-tonne Archimedes Screw. The generator will provide the buildings with electricity and power the ground source heat pumps used to heat buildings and the glass house situated in the park. Fully eco-powered, any excess electricity will be sent to the national grid.
