Everyday I Write The Book

Lockdown Day 41: The Long and Winding Road ...

... or path. Either way the end or easing of lockdown now feels irrelevant. Having been stranded in Singapore for a week, halfway home from Australia when the Icelandic volcano closed European skies, I know how painful this forced unreality is. The huge difference is that in 2010 things got back to normal pretty quickly. Now nobody knows what the new normal will look like and they certainly can’t see it emerging for a couple of years. That’s before you even start talking about the decade of repair work that could be needed to the global economy.

Anyway the garden is looking nice, that’s something. Work on the things you can control, the sages say (not a reference to the government’s scientific advisory committee).

Actually didn’t do much today. Low energy day. Did manage the daily 5k walk but otherwise felt old. And pants monster is back, having been on vacation for the last couple of weeks. TSM likewise lacking in oomph. We did watch Henry Bloefeld (the cricket commentator) on an old Hay Festival video which was very entertaining. They have announced a digital festival at the end of the month which is exciting. I also had a rather lovely face time with Big Brother which was really uplifting.

Tomorrow I shall assemble the new vegetable trough and finish the planting. As for the news we have now hit around twenty eight and a half thousand deaths. This from The Guardian: Suffering one of the worst death tolls in Europe from Covid-19, Britain is confident that the peak of the virus has passed and is now looking at how to restart its shuttered economy and ease social restrictions on citizens, according to the Press Association.

Long way to go yet.
