St Raphael’s Church R.C

Day 46- I cycled round 12 churches in Kingston upon Thames. When checking where to find them all I thought there were 11...however one has been demolished( Baptist Church) and is a building site, I also found 2 others as I cycled past!
St Raphael's church was designed in an Italianate style for Alexander Raphael, a Catholic Armenian whose family came from India. Raphael built the church in 1846 as a family chapel. Raphael was the first Roman Catholic to be elected Sheriff of London . After his death it was opened to the public as the first R.C. church in Kingston. The extra is another R.C church built in1960, St Anne’s on Kingston Hill, I liked the pebble mosaic outside.
