Operation Blackbuck
38 years ago today, a single Vulcan made it all the way to the Falkland Islands and back through a heroic flight to do something that had never been done before. I was posted down to the Falkland Islands 25 years later to do my bit on an Island that still has British Military personnel there to protect it, just incase...
The image is framed on my office wall. Taken by me, it is hand signed by the crew members who flew another Vulcan, XH558, when she was returned to flight a few years ago. In the centre of the sun is the signature of the Captain of the Blackbuck aircraft that made it all the way down and back, Martin Withers.
