Day 122/20. Another first of the year.

1st of May and a first sighting of a Beautiful Demoiselle. This is a very young male, probably emerging only 2-3 days ago. The Beautiful Demoiselle is only found alongside fast flowing rivers and streams in the south and west of Britain. Which is why they are very common alongside the Itchen Navigation canal, which is where we saw this today. The Itchen is still swollen from the early year rain, but the floods have all gone now, the towpath dried out and it is a pleasure to walk along.
