It's all in the eyes

Maria is the caretaker of our house here in India. She comes in every evening and puts the lights on outside and every morning to switch them off and wash the tiles at the front of the house .. We have a large iron gate which makes a rumble when it is opened and if she hears that noise she is round immediately ..

More to the point though is that she lives with her daughter and her husband and their children Saria and Sana .. Sana is the little girl who is teaching me Malayalam .. they live in a very basic hut and at one time Maria had a house that was on the land this house where we stay has been built..She sold the land to get money for her daughter's wedding ... and to set them up. I just don't know if she got a fair rate as land is expensive here now ... who knows.. and we often hear the husband being told off for his drinking... you can see it all in her eyes ..

I hear the gate rumble now. She must be round to put on the lights ..
