A Walk on the Wild Side

I would not of thought that the walk up to La Vare would have been so rich in wildlife today as it was cold and damp. We saw at least eight marmots, maybe 50 chamois, and a Bearded Vulture. These two young chamois were looking a bit chilly in the new snow which had come down to 1800m. Unfortunately we disturbed quite a large herd that we came apon suddenly. The ones in extra were moving at quite a speed. But the most surprising thing was that we could hear Black Grouse calling until midday. In other areas where I go to see them, they always stop around 9am! I must return to try to spot them soon but the weather forecast is awful for the next week.
