Well a bit of rain stopped most people exercising this morning even Ros didn't go on her walk today.
But the weather was very conducive to flatting back the first layer of topcoat I put sprayed on yesterday. In fact it was easier today as less water was needed with the wet and dry as it did not evaporate as it did in the recent hot sun.
Although progressing well it felt as I was taking a step backwards as the shiny paint was rubbed off and dulled down. I was pleases that there were only half a dozen areas highlighted by the topcoat that needed micro surgery to cover them up. However I did discover a couple of extra body cracks whilst the car was under the microscope. There was nothing for it but to cut back the paint with my small air grinder drill a hole at the end on the crack to stop it spreading and then fill it with woven fibreglass and filler. All done in less than an hour. Just needs rubbing down now.
It was interesting rubbing the car down as I could see how my spraying improved yesterday as I advanced round the car. One thing I must ensure is that I get an even distribution of paint when I spray the next coats. I must also be more careful and not let the paint run. Although the runs are easily flatted back it's unnecessary work that can be avoided with a bit more care.
Last night I bought ten litres of expensive high gloss non bloom thinners off eBay which should help get a better finish. Although spraying is a bit like welding it's not how good you are at welding that makes the difference it's how good you are at grinding the weld to look good. With spraying cellulose paint it's not the spraying but the rubbing down that makes the difference.
The evening as usual is a time to relax and after tea we both fell asleep watch some awful film.
