Threesome
About 20 yards ahead of this 'Mallard a Trois' a female duck was shepherding (or whatever hen ducks do) about nine or ten ducklings into the relative safety of a bed of reeds by the canal bank. Meanwhile these three drakes just sat motionless on the water before one of them decided to swim away, to be joined by his colleagues shortly afterwards. It was strange just to see them sitting there relatively still for what was several seconds.
In other news, it rained today. First rain in several weeks, which is quite remarkable for April in Central Scotland. The good news was that the rain didn't start until later in the afternoon, by which time I had been to the shops and had cut the grass in the back garden, as well as some other overdue gardening tasks.
To be honest, I quite enjoyed my walk in the light rain. Don't think I'll be saying that if it persists, but it was a pleasant change. Good weather for ducks, as the saying goes.
