Paris, Scotland

There are a fair few restaurants in Edinburgh of French-Scottish persuasion. I suspect this goes back to the 'Auld Alliance' between the kingdoms of Scotland and France in 1295, built on their need to stem English expansion. However, I have heard that it wasn't simply a military alliance, but, according to the BBC's history website, was based on a long-established friendship founded on the Scots love of French wine. French wine of all things!

Apparently Scottish merchants enjoyed the privilege of 'selecting the first choice of Bordeaux's finest wines'

When I first discovered this restaurant, I couldn't believe how authentic it appeared from the outside. So, I paid a visit inside. Credit given where credit is due, Café St Honoré feels like a Parisian restaurant. And the food? good. And the Bordeaux? pretty darn excellent!

So if you didn't know it, would you think the Cafe was in Paris, France or Paris, Scotland?

(double yellow lines is a clue :)
