Soda Lake - Columbia National Wildlife Preserve
Today my sons and I drove over to the Columbia National Wildlife Preserve in Central Washington. It is an area of immense sollitude, marshlands, pothole lakes, birds, and dramatic basalt cliffs. The area was created by volcanos and ice age floods. We saw lots of birds including sandhill cranes, wildflower including phlox, yarrow and Balsamroot.
Soda Lake here is manmade and is part of the irrigation system that feeds so many farms. They grow potatoes, apples and onions in this area.
