Pelted petal

Strong south westerlies mixed with lashing rain continued to pelt our coast today. Less than an inch long, this tiny petal had been blown onto the wet glass door. The contrasting strength of the elements and vulnerability of a small plant seemed like an appropriate blip.

In town this afternoon, a motorist stopped to ask the time and was obliged. Later, walking back to this old house, another heavy shower forced a detour to a nearby bus shelter. A car stopped a few minutes later - by coincidence, the same motorist offering a lift back to the village. It turned out we had been living for more than 10 years within a quarter of a mile of each other in this small community without ever meeting! Nice to know that the spirit of goodwill still survives here, though perhaps also a sad reflection of how we live these days.
