The Sneaky Snake Day
Little did we know this morning, when mum packed our picnic in the blue backpack, that today would be the Sneaky Snake Day. And that, let me tell you, was a good thing, because if mum had known, we wouldn’t have gone out to the oak meadows at all today and we would have missed our third On the rocks-picnic.
We set out happily, but when we got to the football field right next to the first oak meadow, there was a huge sprinkler right on our path and we didn’t want to get wet. So we made a detour out onto the field, and right there it was! A grey, slithering snake with two yellow spots on its neck. Phew! That means it’s not poisonous, but it can still cause great damage to dog noses.
Mum was scared/relieved and said she hoped this was the one snake we’d meet this season. We went into the oak meadows, and once I’d jumped my first big rock, she saw something about a metre from her foot, right by the rock, something shiny and black that looked a bit like a small rubber tyre. Uh. Oh. It was the poisonous kind this time.
Mum GRABBED me and we scarpered. Fast. Mum was panting slightly and said her heart was racing. What if I had sniffed around before I jumped?? We went to find a good picnic rock, and as a bonus, we found hidden parkour equipment and a blossoming wild cherry tree! Yay!
Stupid stupid snakes. We’re NOT blipping them, I don’t want them on my journal and mum says she refuses to give them media space. Stay away from us! Please.
