Spring Work

Yesterday I wrote about the sun moving around as the year rolls on and the days lengthen. I mentioned where we sit in the evening, just outside the front door, and this picture shows that spot. The birch tree in yesterday's blip is the large one on the right of the picture, and it's still too early for the sun to illuminate the branches as in yesterday's picture.
Spring gives rise to a lot of work and today I was busy with some of that work. The barrow needed repairing, the snow clearing tools can be stored away until next winter and the rakes can be fetched from storage. Raking features heavily. Leaves need to be cleared away, gravel has been dropped on lawns, dead plants are choking the new growth. After much raking my shoulder ached but we did yoga this evening and the pain disappeared. There are still some snow piles slowly melting away and it's tempting to spread them out so they go more quickly. Cables that powered the Christmas (winter) lights are free of the ice and can be coiled up and put away.
Finally, it's important to find time to actually sit and enjoy this glorious weather. We took our coffee down to the Red House's veranda today and sat there in the sun. It was actually too hot to sit there and Jan gave up quite quickly but I took my shirt off and stayed there reading my excellent book - Orfeo, by Richard Powers (author of The Overstory), even though the light was too bright and the sun too hot. Sometimes we have to suffer for our art!!
