Today looked as if it would be a good day to carry on painting the Bentley but unfortunately the wind got up and it was too blowy to paint. So I spent the morning flatting down the etching coat I put on yesterday and as usual this in turn led to more filling and more rubbing down.
Restoring car bodywork is strange as time is spent filling blemishes then time is taken rubbing off the filler that's just been applied. Painting's the same paint is sprayed on then time is spent rubbing part of it off again.
Hopefully I will get to the stage when the filling stops and the next coat of undercoat can be sprayed.
By lunchtime the wind was as fierce as ever so I decided to break off from the Bentley and mow the lawn. The lawn needed to be cut sometime this week and it seemed best done today as I could not paint the Bentley.
I used the app on my phone whilst mowing and the statistics were similar to last time with a total time of 1 hour 14 minutes travelling a total of 1.59 miles at a speed of 1.3 mph but this time I fiiled the fuel tank to the brim before I started so I could measure how much fuel I used. It turn out that I used 3.5 litres of petrol which equates to 2.06 mpg.
The last time I used the Flymo to cut the banks it keep stopping and I thought that I would have to take the carburettor apart to clean it. But when I took off my adapted air filter it wasn't as dirty as expected so I decided not to strip the carb and just give it a try. After about half a dozen pulls on the starter cord it roared into life and did all the cutting without falter which begs the question why did it keep stopping last time. Who knows?
After mowing the lawns I fitted my new shiny red bell to my bike to replace the old one which didn't work too well.
Aterwards I had an hour or to spare so I did some more rubbing down of the filler that I applied this morning.
