Still Standing

Somehow this old house has managed to survive the development of Nanchang. It sits on one of the main roads of the city close to a busy intersection. It juts out into the road meaning there's no space for a pavement and so pedestrians have to walk into the traffic to get around it. It also occupies what is really quite valuable land. The government has been trying to buy it for years now yet the old lady who has lived in it all her life refuses to sell. All in all it is an inconvenience to traffic and pedestrians, to land developers and to the government who could profit from any development. Yet despite this the house remains standing and as one of only a few examples of such buildings left in the city centre I hope it stays standing for many more years to come.
