Robins
Robins are surrounded by folklore... From the story that the robin used to be brown and acquired his red breast from a splash of the blood of Christ when he plucked a thorn from the son of god’s head as he was dying on the crucifix, to the one where the red came from a burn from the fire he was fanning to keep the baby Jesus warm.
And in Irish folklore, to kill a robin was bad luck that would result in a permanent tremor in the offender’s hand.
In some parts of the country, if a robin entered a house, it signalled the death of someone in the family. The birds were accepted as messengers for those in the spirit world.
Whatever the stories... I love them!
