Theatre 43
I go to almost every play at the New Theatre, established in the 1930s as the Sydney Workers Art Club under the slogan ‘Art is a Weapon’. It’s still independent and leftist. Theatre 43 is across the road, down one block and up a laneway but I until a few days ago I didn’t know it existed.
Well, Theatre 43 turned out to be street art painted on a garage door and back fence. The artist, Hugues Sineux, says it shows a scene reminiscent of 19th century Castelet puppet theatre, and the zebra is like an actor sneaking a look at the audience.
I reckon the addition of Theatre 43 makes this end of King St a theatre precinct.
Thanks for hosting admirer!
