Are we there yet?

Superstitions are inherently silly yet we persist with so many of them. Why is this? What happens to the boundless confidence we have as four year olds that by 12 years old we believe/accept that luck is an actual thing and that we may fail without a large dose of it?

Walking under a ladder
Finding a four leaf clover
A rabbit’s foot
A Japanese beckoning cat
A black cat
Touch wood
Lucky horseshoe
Break a mirror
Open an umbrella indoors

What vast power the truly bizarre perception of ‘luck’ has.
