Day 22 - On the way out...........
Well - these berries are. I actually shot these a couple of weeks ago......Day 4 to be precise. At that stage everything was new, no-one had any answers but we all had lots of questions. Today's announcement was again a step in the right direction - just 15 more cases, no deaths and another 42 recoveries. Our PM, Jacinda Adern, outlined what the new Level 3 would look like when they make the decision that we're ready to begin our - hopefully slow - exit. As they have said, coming back down a mountain is not a simple case of just following the route you went up it - a different route, a slow pace, different obstacles to navigate, all need to be taken into consideration to make a successful and safe descent. I like that analogy. They're talking about easing up on restrictions but the need to avoid face-to-face contact would still be there, so takeaways would be OK to re-open but restaurants and cafe's wouldn't. Students up to Year 10 can attend school, but not those in the senior school. Rationale - under 14's legally need to be supervised at home: if mum and/or dad are able to go to work then those youngsters need to go somewhere.......or a parent needs to stay home. It seems sensible. Safe. There are still lots of questions to be both asked and answered, but I do feel they have taken on board the biggest complaint about the lock-down so far - not enough detail on specifics early on. This is not perfect. It is uncharted territory. It's not the end.
In kitty news today - massive leaps forward in kitty confidence. She has spent most of the late afternoon and evening on the sofa with me......a place she chose to settle. I have now been able to reach out and stroke her when she's sitting on the floor without her running away.........not every time, but enough to know she can do it. It's all about small steps and time - just like our COVID exit.
