Hierochloe australis

Extra: Gate

Today we got more snow. This very fine true grass Hierochloe australis is already blooming. It´s European distribution is interesting. Most easily you can find it in Finland (not at all in Scandinavia). Furthermore H. australis thrives in eastern parts on Central Europe (e.g. Germany).
I could not find it´s Enlish name. In Finnish it is metsämaarianheinä. Translation would be Wood-grass of St. Mary.
In the detailed picture you can see how the light yellow stigmas have protruded. So the girls are in the field but they still wait boys to come.
