Coleridge's Cottage in Clevedon
This grade 1 listed building in Clevedon, nearly opposite the Curzon Cinema, has an old plaque shown in this picture, which reads: "Samuel Taylor Coleridge the Poet Spent his honemoon at this Cottage in 1795". It was also where he wrote the poem "The Eolian Harp" which starts:
"My pensive Sara! thy soft cheek reclined
Thus on mine arm, most soothing sweet it is
To sit beside our Cot, our Cot o'ergrown
With white-flowered Jasmin, and the broad-leaved Myrtle"
Unfortunately the present owners of the cottage obviously do not think such a treasure should be in the public view as the front is masked by a modern wooden fence on top of the wall, and to get this picture I had to crouch down and take the photo underneath the hedge at the side of the front gate.
