It's as though the pigeons have installed their very own “Police Line – Do Not Cross” tape around the building opposite, naked to the human eye. I've seen no activity there at all since I returned from my walk yesterday. I have no idea what that means regarding the outcome of yesterday's duel.

I took the bicycle out today. It's been the first time I have used it since riding home from work on Monday 23rd March, but I figured I should give my pedalling muscles a wake-up. Frankly, I prefer walking, but not to work, that would take far too long, but for scenery, the bicycle offers very little of interest. If you like, you can follow my routes on your preferred mapping website.

Today I cycled west along the High Street as far as the river and then turned left into Esplanade. At the Shorts Way bend I continued straight along the footpath to Manor Lane, where I turned left again and had to dismount and push the bike uphill. Each house, approximately 5 metres wide, is 7 brick-courses above or below its neighbour (about 54cm), so roughly 1:10, and it looked fairly gentle in comparison with the roads I walked in Chatham yesterday (we'll come to that). I turned left again at the top into Borstal Street which was happily level enough for me to ride the bike again, and then left once more into Shorts Way where I eroded most of my brake pads. Not doing that again!

Yesterday I walked east along the High Street, left into Institute Road, right into Hillside Road, left into Chelmar Road, left into Meadowbank Road, right again back into Institute Road and right onto the footpath leading around the edge of Great Lines because we had been requested to stay away from parks. I continued along the edge of the park, Marlborough Road, and then across Brompton Road into Mill Road and left into Khyber Road. I had hoped to cross Prince Arthur Road and continue along Khyber Road which, as far as I could tell from the map, was closed to traffic. In fact it is closed to everyone without appropriate ID. There are metal gates, razor-wire, off-putting signs etc. so I turned left up Prince Arthur Road and then right into Wood Street to retrace my own footsteps from last Saturday.

All these images were taken on my walk yesterday, but I have created the collage today so I have not cheated.
