The School Gates
Basil and took a different route today for our walk, stomping the pavements to the south. I think both of us were feeling the heat by the time we reached 'the green lane,' a sward of grass that lies between the backs of Trueway Drive and Fairway Road.
Newcroft School lies on Trueway Drive, barred and shuttered. Staff, I assume it was staff, had fastened these balloons and messages on the gates. Opposite, a house had notices in the window to inform kids of what educational resources could be found on TV.
There were several houses with rainbows, and slogans of hope.
We greeted the Amazon delivery driver in his white van. He gave us the thumbs up. Passing up the jitty from Homeway Close, we ran into Chris again, who has been extracting evergreen tree stumps from his garden. Len had said he wanted to make more room for cars. I thought it was because he wanted more light in his garden. It turns out that Len was right.
Was able to say hello in person to neighbours David and Helen, and Colin reached us on his mobility scooter to give us an Easter card, which was very kind of him. The neighbours at no 24 seem to have left. The house is all closed up. I wonder where they went and when exactly they left.
