New broom

Actually quite an old broom, well three or four years old. Not sure has ever flowered quite so extraordinarily though. It leans at an eccentric angle and is our top plant of the moment. Not sure exactly what it is, but I’ll be trying to make more of them.

All hens still alive this morning, and Henrietta is well enough to be more assertive. She is still bottom of the pecking order, but i guess someone has to be. I tried a new tactic this morning - locking the bully away for blocking Henrietta from eating. Seemed to do the trick.

In non-hen news, gardening this morning to move more plants out of the veg garden, re-filling the pond (to the evident and very loud delight of the resident frogs) and trout gravadlax for lunch.

Given it is a long weekend, I don’t feel the need to garden all day, so spent much of the afternoon in the hammock with a book. Watered the potatoes (now that’s an odd sentence for a Northumbrian to be writing) and made the first dinner I’ve made for ages to gives Chef Mr B a night off (lemon and oregano chicken - delicious and no effort).
