Broke or cut?!

Passed this strange boulder while our for our daily walk. Can’t decide if it was broke or deliberately sawed in two, as it was so perfectly broken. But then why would anyone bother to saw a huge boulder in half!!! Was the oddest thing. Several of them are placed along a parking area so you can’t drive beyond them onto the footpath that follows the river
