Railing Rails

Coots and moorhens are both members of the rail family. Coots dominate moorhens and they both dominate water rails. The aggressive coot in my picture is terrorising the moorhen. I love how the moorhen's green legs and feet show up. The scientific name Gallinula chloropus comes from the Latin Gallinula (a small hen or chicken) and the Greek chloropus (khloros χλωρός green or yellow, pous πούς foot).
