Fred Gilroy 1921-2008

A small tribute to the memory of victims who,
suffered and died in the concentration camps, this
being Holocaust Memorial Day
This is a sculpture of Fred Gilroy which stands on Marine Drive
in Scarbotough towards North Bay.
He was part of the Liberation of the camp Bergen Belsen by the
11th Armoured Division and spent some time at the camp and
even had his 24th Birthday in the camp whilst helping the prisoners
there.
The Artist Ray Lonsdale made this piece by hand and assembled
all the parts and welded them together in 13 weeks.
