River Len
Another very fine, dry day with temperatures up to 24C in the back garden. A walk through Bearsted to Carling Lane then along Caring Road and back alongside the Len as we crossed Otham Lane making our way home. So quiet and tranquil which is so at odds with the incredible situation we are still deeply embroiled.
We count ourselves very fortunate in the current lockdown in that we have access to the countryside from our doorstep. Once we're away from the village we see very few other people. And we have the allotment that we can go to for further exercise and fresh air.
The allotment is looking good, we're more on top of it this year than any. I turned over the contents of one compost bay into a newly emptied bay leaving a new bay for this year's garden waste and at the same time creating next year's compost. Only the brassica cage needs clearing now when the purple sprouting has finished.
I was looking at the figures for confirmed cases and deaths on the BBC website today. UK has reported 65,000 cases by 9th April with just under 8000 deaths with the virus (1 death per 8 cases). Germany, on the other hand, has 114,000 cases and 2,300 deaths (1 death per 49 cases). The USA has getting on for 1/2 a million cases and just under 15,000 deaths (1 death per 33 cases). I'm wondering why the discrepancy?
