Boys Toys

As I promised yesterday, a different kind of image.

Jamie is home for the weekend (looking for a decent and free meal no doubt).
Yesterday he went routing amongst stuff stored in the garage and came back with both his and Jonathan's remote control racing cars.

He has aspirations of doing a project on his course to control one of these using a raspberry Pi. Not quite sure how or what he intends to do - watch this space. Fortunately, he doesn't want to use his own. He just wants these to demonstrate to his tutor what these can do - and boy, can they do something phenomenal for something quite small.

They are about 45cm long and 20cm wide and weigh less than 2kg. With the right kind of battery (these are electric not glo-plug) they will accelerate at a frighteningly quick rate and will reach a top speed on tarmac of around 60-70mph. You don't want to stand in front of one.

This is a close up of the rear drive train of Jonathan's machine (Jamie's has white springs which detracted from the image).

I liked the different textures and shapes in the image - far more interesting that the whole car.

BTW - Yes I have one too, but mine is a four wheel drive. While not nearly as fast, will, with the correct drive train gearing and steering ratios, navigate the most difficult terrain and climb impossibly steep slopes, steps and anything else a similar size to itself. Great fun....
