'Straya Day/Big Day Out
Happy Australia Day everyone! Or since the aussies have a tendency to shorten even the simplest of words, just 'Straya Day :) I celebrated with the music festival that I've been looking forward to since about May, before I even had the tickets or anyone to go with! The lineup was incredible, but because of the way the stages and schedules were set up we didn't get to see everyone but I saw most of the people I went for so I was happy. First off was Delta Spirit, who are one of my favourite bands but they were kind of disappointing. The frontman was wasted and you couldn't understand a word out of his mouth. On the positive side though, while we were waiting we found a good band called Avalanche City.
After the show we went to get some food and a couple of drinks since there wasn't really anyone we wanted to see for a few hours. There were two main stage areas set up next to each other where the rest of the bands we wanted to see were playing so we headed in there and saw Band of Horses, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, The Killers and Red Hot Chili Peppers. All was fine for the first 4 bands but when it was RHCP's turn to play things got crazy and people were literally being trampled because others wanted to get to the stage so badly. We were only about 5 metres from the stage so I was one of the people getting trampled and got out of there pretty quickly! Favourite act by far of the day was The Killers. Brandon Flowers is such a charismatic guy and has really good stage presence, not to mention he's alright to look at. I was impressed by Vampire Weekend too, they sounded great.
Loved my first music festival and it definitely made for a great Australia Day :)
