Day Fifteen; New life in a pot

Shortly before the closing of the borders, S' cousin and his wife returned to Australia. To Adelaide to be close to grandchildren. The last time we visited them at their home in Snells Beach, S took three stems from a Hibiscus moscheutos, also known as a swamp mallow. The particular one they had was the Luna Red, which is a dwarf and hardy variety with "huge saucer-shaped flowers of rich solid red". 

S had admired this plant in their garden for a long time, and she divided each of the three stems into three smaller cuttings which she then put in this pot, and we have been watering them carefully. At least six have grown leaves and are looking very healthy, and one of the other three looks as if it has a budding leaf growing. 

Watching this new growth in a pot on the deck during the lockdown is encouraging a future focus. We can imagine moving to where we can have a proper garden and have at least one of these beautiful plants which flowers from mid summer until frost.
