LOCK DOWN – DAY 16
Do you know what Ann says to me if she thinks I'm faffing around and sniffing for too long?........................... She says, 'Trixie, hurry up, I haven't got all day!' Well, what a ridiculous thing to say to a clever little collie pup like me. In these days of lock down I know perfectly well that she has got all day. What's the rush? It's not like we've got anything much to do at home so theoretically speaking, we have got all day for me to faff around and sniff.
However today Ann did have stuff to do because she went and did another shop for her friend's mum who is in her late 80s. Ann likes being a 'personal shopper' because it gives her an 'essential reason' to get out of the house, it gives her an 'essential reason' to go out in the car, it gives me some 'home alone' time and she feels as if she's doing her bit in 'helping the nation'.
Ann's friends mum (lets call her Mrs R) lives equal distances away from Tesco & Aldi so last week Ann said she'd go and do her shop at Tesco. However, last week the queue at Tesco stretched for miles and Ann hates queuing so she went to Aldi where there was no queue. As Mrs R mainly just wants fresh fruit & veg, Aldi is probably a better place to go anyway. It was the same this week. Ann went straight to Aldi, didn't have to queue and had a most enjoyable shopping experience cruising the aisles. It was so quiet that even social distancing wasn't a problem. And now that she is an experienced 'personal shopper', she was able to do some shopping for herself at the same time. Not that we needed much 'cos she's trying to shop local, though nowhere local seems to have tinned tomatoes or sweetcorn, so she got those. Oh and somehow six bottles of wine morphed into her trolley................. Ann has given up wine for April (although she did have a bit of a relapse when she met her sisters on Face Time last weekend for a bit of a chitchat). Life is short. There's a holiday weekend coming up and lets face it, we all need a few little pleasures at this difficult time.
Oh and last week Aldi had a lot of plants, but Ann was only concentrating on what Mrs R wanted because she'd never shopped for anyone else before so couldn't cope with doing two shops at once. This week, the plant shelves were almost empty and the plants that were there were dead! Apart from 2 big pots of............................ haven't a clue what they were. Lobelia I think. Anyway Ann bought them (only £3.99 each) and she's re-potted them into our balcony pots. It will be interesting to see what grows.
But........................ what Ann was really hoping to get in Aldi was 'poo bags'. She bought some in our little local Sainsbury's the last time she was in, but do you know how much they were?............................... £1.40 for 50??!! Seriously? We have NO income coming in and my poo bags are costing £1.40 for 50? Normally she'll just buy me 100/150 for £1 at B&M or Poundstretcher or wherever we happen to be. It was all they had and apparently they're bio-degradable. Not really sure what that means? Does it mean that once I've filled them they can just be chucked in a hedge or do we have to dispose of them in the normal way? Anyway Aldi didn't have any poo bags so I guess I'm going to have to start using the posh ones soon.
Its been a beautiful day and after shopping & re-potting Ann just sat on the balcony. We've said it before and we'll say it again......................... We are soooo, sooooo, lucky to have a little bit of outdoor space to chillax in.
This lock down thing is really, really, really hard for us but we are soooooo much luckier than most people. We have a lovely home with a balcony to self-isolate in, we have friends & family who we are able to keep in touch with via phone and social media and even though we have no income coming in, we are not on the breadline yet though we might be if my poo bags are going to continue to cost £1.40 for 50. Lol!
But the most important thing is............................... Ann is 61 years old, she has no underlying health issues and she is on no medication. I bet there's not many 61 year olds that can say that? And.................. she has ME...................... her gorgeous little collie pup to give her a purpose in life and keep her sane.
