Day II on Isle of Islay
Had a fab breakfast at the B&B. Went to see the American Monument (additional picture). It commemorates the loss of two troop ships in 1918; the Tuscia and the Otranto and overlooks the very spot where the Tusciana sunk. The monument is built on a 429 feet (131 metres) high cliff on the Oa Peninsula in 1920 by the American Red Cross, and is designed by architect Robert Walker. The entire story is so sad and less than 20 men have survived. The view from this cliff is beautiful. (Main picture)
After this beautiful walk and after being chased by sheep (we were lucky nothing happened), we continued our way to the Ardbeg distillery where we got one of the best tours ever (additional picture). Whilst here we got the information that most of the distilleries have closed due to the Corona virus.
After this tour we continued our way up North-East where we visited an old church and the 'Kildalton Cross' (additional picture). We hiked up a stone hill and on the way back M fell on the bum. She was covered in mudd! I cried laughing, thankfully she didn't hurt herself too much. To her luck she also had a spare pair of jeans with her so she could change them before sitting into my car! After this we went shopping, bought nibbles and a bottle of red wine for dinner which we had in the room in our B&B.
